Renovation Update - August 24 - All About Bunkers

Bunker shaping was the order of business today. While Harmon Turf Services continued to prep our greens and fairways for seeding, re-shaping of the course's existing bunkers and the construction of some new ones was the focus of the day.

The right greenside bunker on the 9th hole has been removed and the bank has been softened considerably. That bunker had been an ongoing challenge for the maintenance staff. The prevailing wind blew sand out of the top side and rain washed sand out the low side. With that bunker gone, now there will be a bit more room to bail out to the right of the green, and the remaining chip will be a lot less daunting than what used to be a very difficult bunker shot.

The left bunker on #1 green has been removed and the right bunker has been reshaped.

Crews also began to shape the left bunker on 9 green, and they are enlarging the left bunker on 3. Three new bunkers are being built on the uphill 2nd hole. First, there will be a fairway bunker on the left of the fairway on the slope of the hill. As you approach the green, there will be a small pot bunker on the right side of the fairway and a greenside bunker front right of the green.

The basic shapes for the new tee complex on #1 are in place and will be cleaned up in preparation for sod.

Please remember that for safety measures and to protect our newly planted turf during and after construction, the course is closed to the public. Please use the walking trail around the perimeter. Once construction is complete, it will be necessary to remain closed to pedestrian traffic to allow the new grass to establish itself. The course is slated to re-open in the late spring/early summer. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we make improvements.
