Renovation Update - August 28 - Lester George Visit

Golf architect Lester George made a site visit on Monday to look at the first phases of the construction project.

A golf course design can look great on paper. However, when the architect actually has an opportunity to get on site and see how work is progressing, he can then make subtle corrections to his plan that better reflect his vision for the property.

IMG 0351Does the direction of a tee box need to be adjusted? Is that bunker shape exactly what was drawn or does it need to be re-sized or re-positioned? Can a player see the face of a fairway bunker from a particular tee box? Does a cart path need to be shifted for safety? Do the contours of greens need to be changed to eliminate excessive slopes on putting surfaces? Does the short game practice facility work optimally as designed? What do we do with this massive rock ledge that sits right in the middle of the fairway bunker on #9! These are some of the questions that arise during a site visit, and then decisions and adjustments are made between the architect, the contractor and the golf course staff.

This is where the creativity of the architect and the contractor are on display as they try to tweak the design. In some ways it's more art than construction, but the process is exciting to watch.

Once these decisions are made, the contractor can then start finalizing the shaping elements of construction. Once the changes are made, the architect will return and give his final approval so that grassing can begin.

Work continues on tee boxes and bunkers are being edged and fitted with drainage. across the course. Greens have been plotted to determine the slope of the putting surfaces.

It is critical during this construction phase to keep pedestrian traffic off the golf course. Please don't walk or ride bicycles on the property. For the safety of everyone and to protect our newly planted turf during and after construction, the property is CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC. Signs are posted on the perimeter reminding people that there is NO TRESPASSING during construction. Please use the walking trail around the perimeter. Once construction is complete, it will be necessary to remain closed to allow the new grass to establish itself. The course will re-open in the late spring/early summer. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we make improvements.

Please, follow our progress on Facebook and Twitter. We are constantly adding construction photos to our Facebook page in the "2017 Renovation" album.
