Renovation Update - October 10 - Weathering Nate

IMG 0824
Throughout the renovation process, the weather has been pretty kind. Measurable rain has been an infrequent visitor on the golf course. That all changed as the remnants of Nate moved through southwest Virginia Sunday night.

Nearly three inches of rain fell over several hours Sunday evening through Monday. All in all, the new construction came through with minimal damage.

As expected, there was some washout on some of the newly planted slopes. Cart path that had been readied for pavement was slightly rutted in a few areas. The fifth green experienced some washout as did a few trouble spots that had already been identified for repair on the course. Only a few pieces of newly laid sod were displaced. The slopes around the shortgame area and on some of the newly sodded tees held up exceptionally well.

As construction winds down, the major areas of focus are the practice facilities. Seeding of the two greens on the shortgame area and the enlarged putting green is now taking place. There are some areas of the shortgame area that still need to be sodded. Cart path paving should commence on Wednesday and then grading and sodding those edges will follow. The surround of the new fairway bunker and the putting green are also on the to-do list.

Construction should be complete within the next week.

We are asking people to stay off the golf course. Areas have been seeded and new sod can be dangerous to walk on until it takes root. It remains CRITICAL during this phase to keep pedestrian traffic off the golf course. Please don't walk, jog or ride bicycles on the property. For the safety of everyone and to protect our newly planted turf during and after construction, the property is CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC. Signs are posted on the perimeter reminding people that there is NO TRESPASSING during construction. Please use the walking trail around the perimeter. Once construction is complete, it will be necessary to remain closed to allow the new grass to establish itself. The course will re-open in the late spring/early summer. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we make improvements.

Please, follow our progress on Facebook and Twitter. We are constantly adding construction photos to our Facebook page in the "2017 Renovation" album.
