Renovation Update - December

The first snow flurries have fallen in Blacksburg and grass growth has slowed considerably. As we head to the new year, there are several items our to-do list, and naturally, we're checking them twice.

There are a few areas still to be repaired and re-seeded. Areas that could use some additional sod are being evaluated. Much of the attention now is to making sure the course weathers the winter months as best it can.

Signs are still posted on the perimeter stating that the area is under construction. While there isn't much activity going on, this is still a critical time to keep traffic off the golf course. New grass has been planted in many areas and much of it is still very thin. Keeping pedestrian traffic off the new turf is imperative to ensuring successful spring growth.

So, that brings up the question of snow cover and the popularity of The Hill as one of Blacksburg's premier sledding destinations. Unfortunately, this winter, sledding will not be allowed on the golf course property. With so much young grass on the course, the risk of extensive turf damage is too great. The grass is simply not hearty enough to withstand the traffic.

So it is with your understanding and patience that we continue to ask people to stay off the golf course. Our golfers have graciously given up a season of play and we ask that the snow-loving public do the same. Please use the walking trail around the perimeter of the golf course. The course will re-open in the late spring/early summer. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we make improvements.

Please, follow our progress on Facebook and Twitter. We are constantly adding construction photos to our Facebook page in the "2017 Renovation" album.
