Renovation Update - September 4 - Labor Day

As most folks embarked on a long holiday weekend, work continues at The Hill.

Last Friday's rain put a stop to construction so crews put in the hours over the weekend. Bunker finishing was a major focus as drainage and gravel were installed on the majority of traps that have been shaped thus far. Finishing work continues today on the fairway bunker on #2. IMG 0398The new greenside bunker on #9 and the two bunkers in the shortgame practice facility still need to be finished. The new layout will have a total of 17 traps. To date, 10 of those bunkers are ready for polymer and sand.

Pictured on the left is the new Principal's Nose bunker that will sit in the middle of the 9th fairway. Made famous at The Old Course at St. Andrews and more locally by the par 4, 10th hole on the Old White at the Greenbrier, this bunker will challenge players to choose which side of the fairway to play. Ample room to the left creates an angle that will bring the greenside bunker into play. Aiming right brings the challenge of a second fairway bunker. The 9th is one of the few holes that is getting longer. The harsh slope of the 9th green is being softened, but the green itself will be much larger, making the finishing hole one of the toughest on the golf course.

Seeding of fairways also began on Monday. On the right, Joe Harmon of Harmon Turf Services puts down seed on the first fairway. The fairways were aerated, top-dressed and then fertilized before the seed was spread. Regular watering will now be done and we'll see bent grass germinate soon!

It remains CRITICAL during this phase to keep pedestrian traffic off the golf course. Please don't walk or ride bicycles on the property. For the safety of everyone and to protect our newly planted turf during and after construction, the property is CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC. Signs are posted on the perimeter reminding people that there is NO TRESPASSING during construction. Please use the walking trail around the perimeter. Once construction is complete, it will be necessary to remain closed to allow the new grass to establish itself. The course will re-open in the late spring/early summer. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we make improvements.

Please, follow our progress on Facebook and Twitter. We are constantly adding construction photos to our Facebook page in the "2017 Renovation" album.
